Sadc officials are set to fly to Madagascar on Monday in a bid to try to resolve that country's violent political crisis, Swaziland's foreign ministry said.

The trip by Swazi, Angolan and Mozambican officials follows a resolution last week by the Southern African Development Community (Sadc).

Swaziland currently chairs the troika, which deals with conflict resolution. Foreign Minister Lutfo Dlamini said last week that the group will "hold talks with the warring parties".

A bitter dispute between President Marc Ravalomanana and the capital's former mayor Andry Rajoelina has triggered a bloody crisis in Madagascar, with some 100 people killed in protests, riots and looting since 26 January.

The United Nations, the African Union and former colonial power France have also recently sent officials to the island in a bid to resolve the conflict.
