Two gas fields that were offered to foreign energy firms for development will instead be solely managed by state-owned companies, Iraqi government spokesperson Ali al-Dabbagh told AFP on Wednesday.

"The two gas fields that were not taken up by the foreign firms will be exploited by state-owned companies," he said.

The government received no foreign bids to work at the Mansuriya gas field at a major tendering process held in Baghdad on Tuesday.

An offer for the other gas site, from Italy's Edison SpA, was dropped.
