President Jacob Zuma handed over 200 houses in Kanana Park, south of Johannesburg, on Friday.
The handover comes two years after the president visited the neighbouring Sweetwaters informal settlement where he found residents living in appalling conditions.
Zuma cut the ribbons and handed over the keys to some of the residents of the informal settlement.
The president made his way into neighbouring Kanana Park.
The residents have had no access to water or electricity for more than 20 years.
The recipients are mostly the elderly and those living with disabilities.
The Gauteng Provincial government is building another 1000 houses for the residents of Sweetwater and its surrounding areas.
Zuma will meet with community members and will hear what they have to say about service delivery.
