Johannesburg residents living in gated communities may soon have to reapply for permission to erect boom gates.
In April, a new policy was approved at a council meeting.

On Monday, The Star newspaper reported that the policy is likely to be adopted in the next few months.
The public has been urged to participate in the consultation process and to forward any suggestions to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
The new access restrictions policy is similar to the one back in 2003, which failed due to lengthy delays by the JRA.
Time frames have been implemented to speed up approvals.
