That is a percentage increase of 231% on Eskom's charge to municipality. Surely our electricity should be rising by 7c/kw, Eskoms increase?. DDC");

No staff salary increases - we all have to bite the bullet because of the recession, many private firms have canned the idea of any form of remuneration increases for their staff - so will ESKOM do the same? document.write("Below Cost Power to Neighboring Countries and Big Industry
");
document.write("The above article left out a very telling paragraph from the Eskom statement that helped shed some light on the below-cost price electricity is being sold to neighbouring countires and so called \"bigger users\".
The full Eskom statement reads \"The adjustment would result in an estimated standard tariff revenue of R62,031-billion from distribution standard tariff sales of 198 857 gigawatt hours. The estimated total revenues, including special pricing agreements for bigger users of electricity, will be R64,704-billion for sales of 222 640 gigawatt hours, including international sales.\"
Based on that, we can calculate that Eskom will make R2,676-billion for the sale of 10% of their production, so they are selling power at 11,23 cents/KWH to internationals (neighboring countries) and big users (eg smelting plants). This is patently below production cost, while we lame and crippled middle classes will be paying an end price of around 70 cents/KWH!
That is far more iniquitous than subsidising the poor! This is a debacle!. Impie");

ESKOM needs this much, because some idiot decided that some industries can pay less than the consumer. You see, they signed contracts ensuring a very low rate of between 12 – 14 cents per unit. And you pay????
The answer: The consumer subsidies certain industries.
@ Brenda.
I wish they will give us that info too. I have a pre-paid meter and pays around 63 cents per unit. Way more than most!
In conclusion:
If government get their municipalities in order and stop the greed, the consumer would be better protected.
If government opens their eyes and realizes that the consumer at this stage subsidies certain industries, they would be able to protect the consumer by making those agreements null and void.
If ESKOM give those subsidized an increase of 2%, they wouldn’t need to up the price the consumer pay. After all, the consumer is roughly only 17% of those that ESKOM supply.
Think about that….
