Truth or dare
"); document.write("Well, this is about the most inane rant I've heard in a while. Ayn Rand's book may be of interest but your literalism is farcical. Facts aren't written on stone tablets, dude, and rabid rants like this won't convince anyone. Anyway, didn't Random House publish the book? Big surprise they say it's so influential... (oh sorry, was it Wiki that told you so?) The rest of your \"facts\" are similarly blinkered and hopelessly derivative. Do you actually have an opinion of your own? Aside from saying that fraud is, like, bad.. G"); document.write("
Get real
"); document.write("When I too was a 20-something student under Ms Rands spell, I ventured to include a quote of hers in a Philosophy essay I submitted. When my lecturer slated her as the Enid Blyton of philosophers I was quite affronted. 20 years down the line I would tend to agree with him. The very \"absolutism\" that she hails is her very stumbling block. If only the world was as black-and-white as she makes out!

When my kids reach school-leaving age I will not hesitate to introduce them to Ms Rands' books. They are a useful aid to challenging conventional thinking on a lot of important subjects to people of that age. I hope they get inspired by her. But even more so, I hope that as they find their own way in this world, the simplifications she takes refuge in, become ever more evident to them. And unlike Leon Louw, hopefully they get beyond this phase in their lives, and enter the real world with all its shades of greys. An example of this is how Ms Rand is all for capitalists accumulating surpluses for themselves because of their superior intelligence and work ethic, however she doesn't really have an answer for the succession question. Surely for the kids of this \"prime mover\" to passively acquire all his rights and entitlements is diametrically opposed to her core tenets of determinism.. David G"); document.write("

Quite horrified that a late middle-aged Leo Leon still sees Atlas Shrugged as a Bible.. Peter"); document.write("
