A Cape buffalo was sold at an auction for a record price of R40-million.
The buffalo, named Mystery, is a 10-year-old male and measures 1.34m. Another buffalo bull was sold at the same auction for R22.5-million. Both buffalo were reportedly bought by unnamed buyers from the Eastern Cape.
According to the Cape Argus, 290 animals were sold for R230-million at the auction at the Thabo Tholo game reserve in the North West.
The previous record for a buffalo bull was set last year when, when the animal was sold for R26-million.
A Zambian sable bull was sold for R11-million and touted as having an "all-in-one package: black facial mask, horns, a large masculine body and attitude of note."
