Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba insists Eskom's grid will be able to take the strain over the coming winter.
The parastatal is urging consumers to cut their electricity usage by at least 10 percent in the coming months to avoid blackouts.
Gigaba says while Eskom faces serious challenges, it will do everything possible to keep the lights on.
“Until Medupi unit six comes online at the end of the year, we must expect anything.”
Gigaba also says despite winters getting colder and the technical difficulties that Eskom has been experiencing, they will try to keep the electricity going.
Meanwhile, South Africa saved 629MW during Earth Hour on Saturday.
