The Black Business Council on Wednesday on said the African National Congress’ (ANC) lack of clarity about its policy conference resolutions on mine nationalisation could hurt the economy.
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) on Wednesday claimed the leading party had resolved to nationalise parts of the economy.
The ANC's final resolution said, however, it had decided against whole-sale nationalisaton.
“We have already indicated our discomfort,” said the council's General Secretary Sandile Zungu.
“The ANC has to come out very clearly, unambiguously and frankly, and say this is what the policy conference position was on nationalisation.”
ANC Economic Transformation Commission Chair Enoch Godongwana declined to be interviewed but instead pointed to the conference's resolution, which discusses strategic nationalisation but rejects whole-sale nationalisation.
The league’s Khusela Sangoni claimed, therefore, that they have won.
“The whole concept of the whole-sale nationalisation is a red herring.”
Clarity may now only come after the ANC's Mangaung conference.
