A man was critically injured when a car collided with an e-toll station on the N1 southbound carriageway in Sunninghill on Sunday, Johannesburg paramedics said.
Netcare 911 Jeffrey Wicks said information suggests that the car veered from the road and struck the concrete barrier of the toll station before it overturned.
"Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the driver still heavily entrapped in the wreckage," said Wicks.
"The initiated care while fire-fighters set about using the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic rescue equipment to free him."
Wicks said no one else was injured in the crash.
Gold is set to hold its own, with the price likely to breach $1800/oz towards the end of the year.
