As the public servants' strike entered its second day on Friday, there were indications that contingency plans that were put in place are preventing major disruptions.

State employees downed tools nationwide over a wage dispute on Thursday, demanding an 8.6 percent salary increase.

The Home Affairs Department said the strike has not had a major impact on operations.

The department's Ronnie Mamoepa assured people identity documents and passports will continue to be issued.

"Only four percent of the 8000 total number of staff members employed by the Department of Home Affairs did not report for duty due to support for the strike action," said Mamoepa.

A revised wage offer was tabled at the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council on Thursday night.

"There are contingency measures in place; we have issues an internal memo to all heads of departments to ensure that there is proper deployment especially in priority areas to ensure smooth running of the public service," said the Public Service and Administration Department?s Dumisani Nkwamba.
