Electricity parastatal Eskom is expected to submit a revised proposal to the National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) on Monday.
This was confirmed by a spokeswoman who did not want to be named.
She said more details would be available later on Monday.
Several media speculated on Monday morning that Eskom was expected to inform Nersa that it may be able to lower its proposed electricity tariff hikes.
It was reported that Eskom officials had been working over the weekend on the revised price application.
Eskom has been criticised for demanding a 45 percent tariff hike every year for three years.
