JSE-listed construction group Murray & Roberts is confident it will be paid for its work on Dubai's airport.

In a statement on Friday, the group said it had noted the recent request by Emirate of Dubai state-owned developer Dubai World and its subsidiary Nakheel, for a temporary suspension of debt repayments.

"The only contract to which Murray & Roberts was exposed with Nakheel was Trump Tower. This contract was terminated and all accounts settled in full within the previous financial year."

"Murray & Roberts and its partners HMRT Joint Venture continue to progress final account settlement of the Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 and Concourse 2 Project for Dubai government's Department of Civil Aviation," it added.

While progress remained slow, the HMRT Joint Venture was confident of its rights under the contract and would pursue such rights as appropriate, Murray & Roberts said.

On Wednesday, Dubai said it wanted creditors of Dubai World and Nakheel to agree to a debt standstill as it restructured Dubai World, the group that drove the emirate's growth. The news has brought about widespread concern about the financial stability of the region.
