Electricity parastatal Eskom announced three senior appointments on Wednesday.
Paul O'Flaherty was appointed as finance director from 1 January; Dan Marokane as managing director of primary energy from 12 January; and Bhabhalazi Bulunga as managing director of human resources from 1 February, Eskom said in a statement. O'Flaherty is currently the chief financial officer of Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, which he joined in July 2007. Before that, O'Flaherty spent five years at the Johannesburg-based construction company Group 5 after 14 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Marokane has been with PetroSA for eleven years. He was appointed to his current position as vice-president in the operations division of PetroSA in March 2007. Eskom said he was a director of PetroSA Nigeria, PetroSA Europe and Brass Exploration, Nigeria. He was responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Gas-to-Liquids Refinery (GTL&R) in Mosselbay and the three exploration and production offshore units — the F-A gas platform and the Orca and Glas Dowr oil production vessels. Eskom said Bulunga was currently general manager of human resources at the South African Airways (SAA), which he joined in March 2007 after a stint at BHPBilliton Ltd. Eskom's board and executive committee extended a warm welcome to the new appointments. They were joining the company's leadership team "at an opportune time as we execute the company's capacity expansion plans to address the country's electricity supply needs for the future," it said. Eskom's board, however, is still without a chairperson following the resignation of Bobby Godsell. It is also without a chief executive officer following the controversial departure of Jacob Maroga.
