Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan says Eskom needs time and space to appoint a new CEO and board chair without outside interference.

The minister ended more than a week of silence on Thursday after Eskom acting chair Mpho Makwana confirmed last month's resignation of former CEO Jacob Maroga.

She said government was forced to step in because the row between Maroga and former board chairperson Bobby Godsell was politicised by the Black Management Forum and the ANC Youth League.

Hogan said while government was intervening against its will she was planning to approach Godsell this weekend about his possible return.

"I sometimes feel that the tactics undertaken are maybe inappropriate. I have an agreement with my colleagues in cabinet about we conduct these affairs now," she said.
