Embattled South African power utility Eskom has finally called a press conference on Thursday.

After two weeks of ducking and diving the media on what was going on with the leadership of the utility, the board has agreed to fill the public in on the latest developments.

Eskom last week cancelled a press conference at the last minute and has twice this week failed to issue statements as promised.

Sapa reported that the board on Thursday invited journalists to a briefing on the "current developments" in Eskom at Megawatt Park in Sandton at 12.30pm.

It is exactly two weeks since both CEO Jacob Maroga and chairman Bobby Godsell offered to resign after clashes in their vision for the utility.

The board reportedly accepted Maroga's resignation while allowing Godsell to stay on. But Maroga's denial and attempts to reinstate himself as the utility's boss left the public wondering who was in charge.

In the meanwhile there have been rumours of presidential intervention, political lobbying, race allegations, concerns over the future direction of the utility and suggestions that the debacle could deter foreign investor interest in South Africa.

In a surprise announcement Godsell resigned on Monday, an interim chairman was appointed and the following day Maroga was reportedly prevented from entering Megawatt Park.
