Nokia South Africa says it has not received any reports of injuries caused by faulty chargers after close to 14 million chargers were removed from shop shelves in several countries as a precautionary measure.

Nokia SA's Tanya Steenkamp said there was a potential risk and they had to ensure the safety of their consumers.

"We found that some plastic covers of a certain amount of our chargers, made by only one of our manufacturers or third parties, were actually coming loose from the actual charger, which could have a potential electrical shock hazard, if it was still plugged onto the wall."
