Public Enterprises Minister Barbara Hogan says Eskom's newly-appointed acting chairman Mpho Makwana has the board's full support.

Makwana was appointed after Bobby Godsell resigned on Monday, claiming government supported neither the board's decision to accept chief executive Jacob Maroga's resignation nor its two attempts to resolve the dispute.

He said Eskom's relationship with Maroga had broken down irretrievably.

Maroga allegedly did not respond to an offer to deal with the issue through private arbitration when news of his apparent resignation came to light last week.

Energy Programme Manager for Frost and Sullivan Cornelis van der Waal said Eskom?s public image has been tarnished by the shake up.

"I do not necessarily think that this type of fight needs to be fought in public; therefore it is absolutely critical that someone like Barbra Hogan steps in behind the scenes and makes sure that it gets sorted out," said van der Waal.
