The Land Bank supports the probe into alleged corruption by some of its top officials, a spokesperson said on Monday.

"The Land Bank wishes to reaffirm its total commitment towards the finalisation of the alleged corruption charges, which relate to AgreeBEE funds and other related matters as recently being reported in the media," spokesman Congress Mahlangu said.

The Sunday Times reported on Sunday that R100-million of an AgriBEE fund meant for poor farmers had been used to bankroll the lavish lifestyles of politically-connected individuals.

The fund was meant for agriculture projects, including a support group that planned to grow food for HIV/Aids sufferers and orphans.

According to the report the money was instead transferred from the agriculture department to the Land Bank.

Former Gauteng housing MEC Dan Mofokeng and Phil Mohlahlane, head of the Land Bank's agriculture department section that approved AgriBEE funding and the bank's acting CEO at the time when the disbursements were made, allegedly used millions of the bank's funds to pay for luxury cars, houses and farms.

"The Bank took an initiative and conducted an intensive investigation through the forensic audit ? which created the platform for the police to act," said Phakamani Hadebe, CEO of the bank, in a statement.

He said the bank has gone the extra mile to provide additional forensic support services to the police with the aim of expediting the process. "Clearly, our commitments are beyond reproach," he said.

"The Bank wishes to emphasis that the ball is now in the police's court."
