In August 2009, there were 895 738 foreign arrivals in South Africa, according to data released on Monday by Statistics South Africa.

The arrivals were made up of 32 026 non-visitors and 863 712 visitors.

The visitors consisted of 225 140 same-day visitors and 638 572 overnight visitors (tourists).

The breakdown of the tourists by region is as follows: 152 187 from overseas; 469 192 from SADC countries; 13 775 from 'other' African countries and 3418 unspecified.
