Some Khayelitsha residents are demanding to be employed by construction giant, Group 5.

The company is busy erecting a R400-million hospital in the township, but some locals claim they have not been made part of the project.

Some residents say they are fed up with being overlooked when developments are constructed in their area.

They are accusing the contractor of employing people from other communities.

On Thursday morning, a number of people blockaded the entrance to the construction site to prevent workers from getting in. They were soon forced to leave by police.

Meanwhile, the construction of the hospital is continuing.

Group 5 officials have declined to comment.
