The government-specified minimum wage for taxi drivers has been
increased to R1933.72 per month, the labour department said on
Wednesday.
It becomes effective from July 1, spokesperson Page Boikanyo said.
This increase also applies to administration workers in the
industry.
Rank marshals' pay should increase from R1392.42 to R1546.97 and
the wages for other workers in the industry not specified
elsewhere, increase from R1218.38 to R1353.62.
The boarding allowance is to increase from R220 to R240.02.
This increase stays in place until June 30, 2010.
The inflation rate used to calculate the raise was the March
2009 rate of 9.10 percent plus two percent, putting the increase at
11.10 percent.
