The rand spent the morning in fairly quiet trade and was little changed by on Thursday.

At 12.14am the rand was bid at 7.6463 to the dollar from 7.6090 at its previous close.

It was bid at 11.3460 to the euro from 11.3235 previosuly.

Against sterling, it was at 12.6410 from 12.6050 before.

At 12.02am gold was quoted at $1090.52 an ounce.
