The rand was in relatively quiet trade by midday on Monday as it continued to track the dollar.

At 11:42 the rand was bid at 7.3369 to the dollar from 7.3300 at its previous close.

It was bid at 10.9624 to the euro from its previous close of 10.9220.

Against sterling it was bid at 11.9597 against from 11.9510 previously.

At 12.02am gold was quoted at $1054.97 an ounce.
