The rand plunged further against major currencies in noon trade on Friday while eyeing major US payrolls data for direction.

At 12.30pm the local unit was bid at 8.1362 against the greenback from its previous close of 8.0600.

The rand was bid at 11.6813 against the euro from its previous close of 11.5505.

Against sterling the rand was bid at 13.6149 from its previous close of 13.4937.

Gold was quoted $960.35 a troy ounce.
