The rand eased slightly against major currencies in noon trade on Tuesday amid a confusing trade which saw other emerging market currencies trading higher.

At 12.15pm the local unit was bid at 7.8156 against the greenback from its previous close of 7.7435.

The rand was bid at 11.2558 against the euro from its previous close of 11.1685.

Against sterling the rand was bid at 13.2268 from its previous close of 13.1050.

Gold was quoted $954.11 a troy ounce.
