The rand was steady against major currencies in noon trade on Tuesday while receiving a good boost from a firmer euro however trade remained quiet with little activity expected.

At 12.30pm the local unit was bid at 7.8728 against the greenback from its previous close of 7.8250.

The rand was bid at 11.1943 against the euro for its previous close of 11.1325.

Against sterling the rand was bid at 12.9285 from its previous close of 12.9403.

Gold was quoted $949.05 a troy ounce.
