On Tuesday, non-profitable organisation Equal Education said government was not living up to its promise to improve infrastructure in schools across the country.

Dozens of the members and pupils picketed outside Parliament in Cape Town, ahead of Wednesday's budget speech.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will address the nation, explaining how the taxpayer’s money will be spent.

Equal Education spokesperson Brad Brockman said they want Gordhan to allocate more money towards upgrading school infrastructure, and for the minister to show “greater insight”.

Brockman added that 93 percent of schools do not have functioning libraries, while 90 percent of schools are without functioning computer centres.
